While the Federal first and repeat buyer credits have gone away, the District of Columbia retains its $5000 first-time buyer credit until the end of 2010. The DC credit reduces the buyer's federal taxes. The credit cannot be used as a down payment. It is a valuable incentive for buyers who qualify to continue to shop and purchase in DC.
